A cancer risk assessment may be helpful if you or a family member has experienced:

  • Cancer diagnosed under age 50

  • Three or more relatives on the same side with cancer

  • More than one type of cancer

  • A known cancer gene mutation

  • Rare cancers (ovarian, pancreatic, male breast cancer)

  • Ten or more colon polyps

  • Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry

Most breast cancers occur in women with no family history. Your personal risk matters.

Screening Recommendations for High‑Risk Women (20%+)

Women with a calculated lifetime risk of 20% or higher may qualify for:

  • Annual breast MRI starting at age 25–30 MRI is recommended as the earliest screening tool for high‑risk women.

  • Annual mammogram starting at age 30 Mammography is added once breast tissue is more mature and MRI has already begun.

  • Two screening tests per year Many high‑risk women receive MRI and mammogram alternating every 6 months.

Genetic Counseling & Testing Through Our Partner, SequenceMD

If your results indicate elevated risk, you may qualify for:

  • Genetic counseling

  • Hereditary cancer testing

  • Personalized prevention planning

Breast Imaging Matters partners with SequenceMD, a Denver‑based clinical genetics provider licensed in Oklahoma. SequenceMD offers telehealth genetic counseling appointments and ships testing kits directly to you for a convenient experience. They handle:

  • Ordering your genetic test

  • Tracking your kit

  • Completing your consent visit

  • Reviewing your results

  • Discussing screening and prevention options

Financial Support for Genetic Testing

For women & men who cannot afford the self‑pay option, Breast Imaging Matters partners with Stonebrook Project, a local nonprofit that provides genetic testing vouchers. This assessment uses clinically aligned breast cancer risk models to estimate whether you may be at increased risk. You’ll receive a personalized risk summary along with clear guidance on recommended next steps.

What if my results show I’m high‑risk (20% or higher)?

Women in this category may qualify for earlier and more specialized screening, such as annual breast MRI in addition to mammograms, and may also be candidates for genetic evaluation. If your score is elevated, our team will text you directly to answer questions and help guide you through your next steps — all from your mobile phone.

Will I be billed or need insurance?

No. The assessment is free.

The Insurance question is optional and only used later to show what your cost would be if you qualify for genetic testing. Most people pay nothing, and the maximum self‑pay option is $250.
